STATEMENT....
I examine how experience is linked to objects within a greater environment and how people can derive meaning and emotion from the most commonplace details. This is prevalent in the mediums I choose—books, sound, stickers and graffiti—that require attentive participation in order to obtain the full effect. It is not until the audience engages with my art that they enter a new realm of perception; there are no hierarchies or (in)correct ways to think within this realm. In this mutual space, my audience and I are on the same playing field and I work to encompass their experience with my own.
My process can be as important, if not more than the final product. Though I am providing controlled systems, I consider variations in the design and establish simple “rules” to guide the audience. These “rules” facilitate their experience but do not eliminate options for creative input. My work is also guided by a sense of responsibility to the media and to the arenas in which it will function.
The traces that my work leaves or the wear that it endures are often the most precious qualities to me. Involving others in a collective experience generates the life and impact of my work, with their time and feedback invested in the process. This nature requires that I never perceive my work to be complete or perfected; it evolves through the perpetual experience between my audience, environment and self.
